How does your research contribute to a better world?

"The goal of my research is to develop drugs that treat brain diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Brain diseases are difficult to treat since the brain is protected by a barrier that prevents large molecules from entering the brain. Biological drugs are large and can because of that bind extremely specifically and strongly to elements that cause disease. Because of this they have potential to treat diseases that so far have been incurable. In our research, we develop transporters that can carry biological drugs across the brain barrier. When using our latest transporter, we have been able to show that new treatment and diagnosis methods of Alzheimer's disease have an effect on the disease progression. This gives hope that we will have an efficient treatment in the future. It would be fantastic if something we have developed can help people suffering from brain diseases."
