MAYday for Crisis - collaboration model dealing with crises

The COVID-19 pandemic has threatened human lives, causing economic instability, political confusion and fear. Many people have lost their lives and many economies are struggling.

At the same time, this is a moment of opportunity to come together as a society – not only to find immediate solutions, but also collaborate and learn for the future. Evidence-based research and knowledge plays a crucial role in this process and it is important to make sure it comes to good use.

MAYday for Crisis - bringing competencies together

MAYday for Crisis is a platform created by Uppsala University's Innovation Parnership Office to bring about collaboration between the university's researchers and external organisations to help society deal with crises. It aims to quickly connect both researchers and external parties in joint projects with potentially great impact.

Such ventures could be associated to medicine and healthcare research, technological inventions applied to existing developments, social structures and education, or economic methodologies and innovation. So far eight main groups have been formed, including:

  • medicine and health care
  • technological development
  • social structure
  • communications and media

A significant number of project ideas have come together, including:

  • development of digital skills for health care staff
  • migration, work environment, and labor legislation associated with crises
  • a remote control platform for prenatal care.

To date, more than 130 researchers from all over the university have expressed interest in collaborating on various projects and come to join the platform.

You are invited - join in!

More researchers are welcome to participate, regardless of research field, and we also invite external stakeholders to join!

All external organisations are welcome: companies, non-profits, public sector organisations as well as other higher education institutions. We'd love to hear about your challenges and interests related to the pandemic or any other crisis where expert knowledge are called for.

Support for action

Depending on the focus of the activities in each thematic area, the Innovation Partnership Office can support new projects and idea development, assist in finding partners for collaboration and help out with funding – the aim is to take projects and research forward to the surrounding society and make them part of the solution against the pandemic.
